There is a new and growing movement in the New York Music World that centers around the idea of “Real-Time Composition.” It would be easy to say that this is just another way of saying free improvisation or free jazz, but there is an important distinction.
The Concept of Real Time Composition Workshop (from 18 to 25 August) is a series of talks, experiments, performances, short interactions between pairs of musicians and then larger ensembles with discussion about what happened after each experiment. Instruments handed out to the audience.
