David Sotgiu was born and had studied in Perugia where he graduated in oboe at the Conservatorio “Francesco Morlacchi” playing his first activities as an instrumentalist.

Subsequently he studied singing and attended masterclasses with various teachers including Sesto Bruscantini, Renato Bruson, Ruggero Raimondi, Raina Kavaibanska, Veriano Padlocks, Mietta Sighele, Mirella Freni and Luciano Pavarotti. He began his career as a singer working with various institutions such as the Sagra Musicale Umbra and the Accademia Filarmonica Romana.

In 2002 was found to be one the winners of the European Communities competition for young opera singers the 56th of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale in Spoleto “Adriano Belli’s”, 2002-2003 he sang in “La prova di un’opera seria” by Gnecco, “Il filosofo di Campagna” by B. Galuppi, “Le nozze di Figaro” by di W. A. Mozart, “Don Pasquale” G. Donizetti, “La Traviata” by G. Verdi.

With the same Theater he took a part in various tours in Canada, Poland, Hungary and Japan.

In 2004 he took a part in the Opéra National du Rhin (Strasbourg) in the production of the opera Reigen by P.Boesmans that was staged in Strasbourg, Colmar, Mulhouse, Paris, Lausanne. In 2005 he sang in Geneva at the Grand Theatre in Tristan and Isolde by R.Wagner (Jungen Seemanns and ein Hirt) dir. Armin Jordan, at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome where he took part in the staging of the three-story Ship by Carlo Boccadoro and Thamos, King of Egypt by W.A. Mozart conducted by M° Fabio Biondi, in Turandot (Pong) G.Puccini at the Sejong Center in Seoul (Korea) under the direction of Maestro Carlo Palleschi.

In same year he debuted at the Sferisterio of Macerata in Don Carlo of G.Verdi under the direction of Maestro Gustav Kuhn.

In 2006 went back to Grand Theatre in Geneva where he sang in the Hamlet of A.Thomas under the direction of M° Michel Plasson and Spring Symphony of B.Britten.

Debut in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor with the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale of Spoleto and in Donizetti’s Adelia, always by Donizetti, with the Haydn Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Gustav Kuhn.

In Warsaw he sang at the Mass in C Major op. 86 L.Van Beethoven under the baton of Maestro Jesus Lopez-Cobos.

In 2007 he sang Il Signor Bruschino of G.Rossini at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Amica of P. Mascagni at the Festival della Valle d’Itria and in Tutti in Maschera of Carlo Pedrotti in Savona, Piacenza and Rovigo.

In 2008 he engaged in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Stadt Theater in Bern; in Il Matrimonio Segreto of D.Cimarosa, Verdi’s La Traviata.

In 2009, at the Stadt Theater of Bern Debuts talking Der Rosenkavalier by R.Strauss.

In the same year, he returned to sing the role of Alfredo in La Traviata by Verdi, and the Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale of Spoleto and in Spain.

In 2010 he starred in Verdi’s Ernani and Adelia of G.Donizetti in Switzerland, debuted Tragédie de Carmen with the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto and Les Trojans V.Berlioz in Warsaw under the direction of Maestro Valery Giergiev. He portrayed Alfredo in La Traviata in Gdansk under the direction of Maestro J.Latham-Koenig and was the Knight in the world premiere of the oper Nur of Marco Taralli at the Festival della Valle d’Itria.

He sang for the Amici della Musica di Foligno Seven Sonnets of Michelangelo by Benjamin Britten.

Debuted in Madame Butterfly of G. Puccini at the Seoul Art Center (Korea) and held several concerts with a great success of audience.

In 2016 is back at the Seoul Art Center with the Duke of Verdi’s Rigoletto enjoying great success and sang in Madame Butterfly at the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca (2015), at the Teatro Goldoni of Livorno, at the Teatro Sociale of Rovigo and at the Opera House in Tirana.

He Worked with Omaggio all’Umbria where he performed several concerts with the Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Intense concert activity in Italy and abroad and the association with various symphony orchestras. In 2013 he obtained at the Conservatory of Fermo second level academic Diploma in singing with 110 e lode with distinction.
