The Festival and Summer Music Courses from July 25 to August 9

On July 25, Assisi Suono Sacro opens its tenth edition titled “In Search of the ONE,” continuing its journey of exploring the great themes of the unity of music and art, of man and Creation, all and each an expression of the same One. It revisits the concept of Unity, dear to many spiritual and philosophical positions and the idea of total music, as already affirmed by greats from Wagner to Gaslini. The artistic direction is by Andrea Ceccomori. The festival enjoys the Patronage of the Municipality of Assisi and the Region of Umbria, Confimi for Art, Reale Mutua, and is the result of the collaboration between Assisi Suono Sacro and Keysound.

Among the musical protagonists, both as artists and teachers, we have, in addition to flutist and artistic director Andrea Ceccomori, the Italian musicologist Renzo Cresti along with the composer Stefano Taglietti. Also present will be pianist and composer Antonio Cocomazzi, harpist Maria Chiara Fiorucci, pianist Michele Fabrizi, the Suonosfera string quartet, double bassist Paolo Camerini, percussionist Simone Pulvano, and sopranos Solrun Braga and Dominika Zamara with Michele Fabrizi.

The grand theme and objective of so-called Total Music is the inspiring element of the opening on July 25 (Auditorium Nicolini at 9:30 PM) which will feature a Conference by the prestigious Italian musicologist Renzo Cresti, who, along with composer Stefano Taglietti and Ceccomori himself, will debate “In the Present, the Seeds of the Music of the Future.” This will be followed by a musical moment featuring Andrea Ceccomori on flute with pianist and composer Antonio Cocomazzi. The evening is promoted by Acli spettacolo and CTA Perugia, with the participation of local associations such as Baobab and Umana coordinated by Cesvol Umbria.

On July 27 (Villa Taticchi, Ponte Pattoli at 9:30 PM), there will be the presentation of Theo Allegretti’s new album, “In Search of Light,” featuring ethno-jazz sounds. Performing on stage will be Allegretti himself, Andrea Ceccomori on flute, Paolo Camerini on double bass, and Simone Pulvano on percussion. On July 29, the Festival returns to Auditorium Nicolini (9:30 PM) for “Praying Maria,” a tribute to the Virgin Mary featuring soprano Solrun Braga with actress Luisa Naso and a pictorial intervention by David Petri. The occasion will also present, curated by critic Andrea Baffoni, David Petri’s work “The Holy Family.” On July 31, in collaboration with the Accademia Leonina, Polish soprano Dominika Zamara with Michele Fabrizi on piano will perform a Recital of lyrical pieces.

As every year, the energy of the numerous students of the Academy, who bring the town of San Francesco to life with music, artistic ideas, creativity, and joy starting from early August, is central to the Festival. Young, some very young, from Italy and abroad, particularly from the United States, Europe, and China, the Academy provides them each year not only with a deepening of technique and interpretation but also with a holistic vision of the musician and his ability, once inspired and with a profound relationship with music (enlightened musician), to be a bearer of the great values of Dialogue and Peace. The students will thus be the protagonists of the numerous final concerts: starting with the final concerts of the harp classes of Maria Chiara Fiorucci (August 6, 7, and 8), piano classes of Michele Fabrizi (August 7 and 8), and composition classes of Stefano Taglietti (August 7). On August 7, on the occasion of the final concert of the courses, in addition to the Suonosfera string quartet, the winner of the Rossomandi Piano Competition 2022 Alessandro De Rosario will also perform.

After the Assisi events, the Festival moves to Castel Rigone, hosted by the Young Musicians Festival: on August 8 (9:00 PM) the students will again be the protagonists, while on August 9 there will be a Masterclass on the Pythagorean Monochord by Daniele Faccin, followed by a musical moment curated by Francesco Santucci on sax and Andrea Ceccomori on flute.

Assisi Suono Sacro is a musical project centered around Assisi and the musical universe most naturally suited to it: sacred music understood as universal and more generally spiritual music. Inspired by the Franciscan spirit and the promotion of Assisi and Umbria as an international center. The focus of Assisi Suono Sacro, always supported by a capable Honorary Committee, is the recovery of the original source of sound, of a stripped-down and bare sound, to form the inspired and enlightened musician tasked with spreading a culture of peace through music.

The program is based on the inspiration of Francis and his relationship with men, God, and creation.
