He studied at Bologna Conservatory, Milan Conservatory and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia of Rome. He then joined IRCAM in Paris, and subsequently DIEM in Aarhus, Tokyo College of Music, and Northwestern University in Chicago. His international outlook is reflected in an eclectic body of works and activities which range from musical compositions and written works to choreographies and masterclasses. He has received numerous composition and academic awards, and conducted extensive research in Europe, Japan, and USA. Forlivesi has composed works for orchestra, choir, chamber music, dance, electronics, and traditional Japanese instruments. His music is performed worldwide and recorded on ALM (Japan), Vox Novus (USA), CDMC (France). A new CD by Tactus (Italy) will be released soon. His publications are available in several languages. He is also renowned as a specialist of early keyboard works and as an interpreter of contemporary music. He has lectured at the top universities in Japan, including Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Sapporo, the Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, the University of Pittsburgh, the Los Angeles Music College, the National Superior Conservatory of Paris, the Sorbonne University, the University of Adelaide, and the University of Melbourne. Forlivesi is the artistic director of “La Musica è Sacra” concert series.
