VIII ° COMPOSITION Masterclass ASSISI SUONO SACRO

Stefano Taglietti‘s course program (from the 23d to the 30d of July) includes:

Writing of the compositions during the masterclass, performance in concert and publication of the compositions of the students on cd (published by Blue Seal Records on the major platforms web and sites spotify-bandcamp-shazam etc.);

  • Group lessons including the writing of the composition to be finished (for kind of ensemble the teacher will agree with the students), tested and performed at the end of the masterclass;
  • Writing techniques and orchestral combinations between extended techniques and traditional techniques;
  • Problems of chamber / orchestral instrumentation, vocal writing and orchestration with electro-acoustic ensembles (electronics on Logic and other programs);
  • Notes on the problems of arrangement (understood as an exercise in transformation and compositional “filter” of derivative materials that are also very varied) and of transcription as an element of continuity or re-contextualization of ancient and modern repertoires;

The works will initially be produced in paper material and subsequently transcribed with video writing programs such as Finale or Sibelius, Musescore.

The masterclass also includes:

  • presentation and collective discussion of students’ works;
  • individual meetings with the teacher;
  • any collective meetings with guest musicians;

Development

The masterclass includes 6 hours a day, divided between collective and single.

In the event that the number of students is less than the minimum established for the activation of the course, the organization reserves the right to reduce the days of attendance. In any case, the integrity of the masterclass and the overall working time with the students will be guaranteed.

Finality

The composition study path proposed by Stefano Taglietti for Assisi Suono Sacro is based on principles of openness, independence, necessity and expressive urgency. The research will be conducted on a sort of “migration” of sounds, of “osmosis” and interpolations, including eclectic ones, also of an extra-European nature aimed at recreating a state of authenticity and as much independence as possible.

It will not be a question here of following a school, doing exercises close to a particular academy or a language that precludes others, but rather to follow a path close to contemporary art music. During the seminar we will try to detect some “necessary” components and establish an expressive sense and a sound functionality that satisfies above all the poetics and one’s own creative identity.

A goal of this seminar, it is reiterated, is the search for an individual musical path (as independent as possible), without excluding anything from one’s own experiences.

The basic philosophy of this course is centered on the principle that, beyond all the psychological, technical, ideological, political, sociological constructions, the problem of music was, and ultimately remains, a solely sound problem.

The enhancement of the musical qualities of each individual student will be the fundamental objective of this seminar.
